Offshore Oil Rig Mechanical and Electrical Jobs

Maintenance Supervisor or Chief Electrician: He/she is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the electrical equipment on the rig, even including tasks like changing light bulbs. Requirements of the job include on occasion working a 12-hour shift and being hoisted into the air at heights. Has a general salary of £47,000 or US $85,500. Ideal for someone with a background in mechanics and /or electrical.

Electronic Technician: This person is responsible for the repair and general maintenance of all the electrical equipment on board the rig. They have an average salary of £36,000 or US $54,000. May be on off occasions to work a 12-hour shift. Also ideal for someone who is not afraid of heights as this job indures being hoisted in a workbasket by a crane or air winch.

Chief Mechanic: This person may have a salary of £45,000 or US $60,000. The role of this person includes the maintenance and repair of the diesel generators and other mechanical equipment and operations on the rig floor. May be required to work 12-hour shift on rare occasions and be hoisted into air by crane in workbasket or riding belt.

Assistant Mechanic: This person has a general salary that consists of either £35,000 or US $55,000. They are responsible for the repair and maintenance of the mechanical equipment and gear onboard which also includes the drilling package. They may on occasion have to work a 12-hour shift and may be called out at all hours to fix a problem with mechanical equipment. Also may be required to be lifted in the air by a crane or winch in a harness or workbasket.

Mechanical maintenance supervisor: This person's duties include the responsibility of the repair and maintenance of the diesel generators and other equipment on the rig. May be required to work 12 hours shift on a rare occasion and be lifted in the air in a harness by a crane or air winch. Has an average salary of £45,000 or US $67,500.

Motorman: This job includes a salary of £30,000 or US $45,500 a year. This job includes the responsibility of the smooth operation of the Rig's power engine room. They may spend most of their time in the motor room and control the supply power for the rig. Other duties include water makers, air compressors, equipment reports, changing oil and filters. May be required to work 12-hour shift on rare occasion and can be called out at any time to fix a problem. Occasionally may be hoisted in workbasket by air winch or crane.
