Offshore Installation Manager (OIM): This person
is in charge of the overall operation of the entire rig. They
have obtained this position by working their way up the oil
crew ranks. May also be known as the PIC or Person in Charge
or MIC (man in charge). Has an average salary of £65,000 or
US$90,000.
Company Man/Woman: This person works as the
board representative from the Oil Company and has a general
salary of £80,000 or US$120,000. The company that is operating
the rig employs him. Not only do they help with the drilling
supervision but overlook the whole operation-taking place
to ensure the best result for the Oil Company they work for.
Captain or Chief Engineer: This person has
obtained this job with the correct certification, training
and Coast Guard testing that has to be obtained over many
years of experience on an offshore oil rig. This person must
be on board on self-propelled rigs and while the vessel is
underway.
Toolpusher: This person will usually work on
the rig floor or in the rig offices. Has a background, which
includes many years as an experienced driller. Some of their
responsibilities may be on the main deck. Known as the boss
and is the overall supervisor of the rig. The list of tasks
include handling paperwork and personnel, authorizes supply
orders, scheduling the work on the rig, promotions, termination's,
supplying technical information and works with the oil company
to coordinate plans with the drilling department. Has an average
salary of £57,000 or US$78,000.
