Crane Operator: Has a salary that consists
of £34,000 or $60,500 US a year. This person is in charge
of all crane operations from the supply boats and aboard the
rig. He/she is the supervisor of the roustabouts and the Crane
operator assistant. The cranes are used to bring aboard supplies
such as castings, pipes, rig equipment and groceries and so
forth. The crane operator will lift these items off the boats
and safely onto the rig. They are also in charge of supplying
the rig floor with the supplies that are needed. It is ideal
for this job to have a good sense of humor, fast reflexes
and a good depth perception. Other tasks may include painting,
cleaning and general maintenance on the rig.
Assistant Crane Operator: He/she is an experienced
Roustabout who can work the cranes and is qualified. Their
logical career progression is to be promoted to the position
of Crane Operator. Has a general salary of £28,000 or US$65,000
a year. This person is assistant to the Crane Operator.
Roustabout: The job description of a roustabout
is drilling on the oilrig. Other tasks also include the unloading
of equipment and supplies from supporting vessels, as well
as servicing well units. The salary can start at US$45,000
or £25,000 a year. The duties can also include supplying equipment
to rig floor when required, keeping main deck and pipe deck
tidy and clean and helping with the guidance of the crane
as supply loads are moved to the rig deck. May also need to
help the roughnecks on the drill floor if they are too busy
to get a break. The roustabout will have his meal or break
then go and relieve one of the roughnecks so they may then
have their break and this is done until all roughnecks have
had a break.
Barge Engineer: This position has a salary
of £47,000 or US$69,000. They are responsible of control room
operations that include anchor handling, rig stability supply
vessel operations and in charge of the control room operations.
They would have most likely have had experiences as a Master
Merchant from the Navy. This person has a good knowledge of
Coast Guard Procedures, fire and safety procedures.
Control Room Operator (CRO): Has a salary
of either £30,000 or US$45,000. This position is a step down
from Barge Engineer and is the Barge engineer's assistant.
This job involves anchor and retrieving operations aboard
the rig. Job responsibilities include keeping the rig afloat
on a regular basis, processing paperwork and work permits.
Painter: This person is responsible for the
offshore oilrig painting. Will be required to work at heights
with scaffolding and assistants. Has a salary of £25,000 or
US$40,500. The Barge engineer is the painter's supervisor.
This job requires working at height on scaffolding in a work
harness. May build own scaffolding. Can have an assistant
if the rig does not have a Roustabout.
Maintenance Roustabout: This person keeps the
condition of the deck area clean and includes general upkeep
of the rig and painting. Can have a salary of £25,000 or US
$60,000. May need to assist the painter with the general painting
on the rig.
Maintenance Foreman: He/she is responsible
for supervising the Maintenance Roustabouts work. Has an average
salary of £28,000 or US $65,000. Their main tasks include
keeping the pipe deck and main deck tidy and clean and supervising
the crane when the loads are being moved aboard. May also
have to assist roustabouts when needed.
